HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 13
(By Delegates Dempsey, Whitman, Tomblin, Ellis and Kuhn)
Naming of the bridge crossing Little Coal River at the confluence
of Spruce Fork as Route 17 enters Madison, Boone County,
West Virginia, in honor of "Lieutenant Darwin K. Kyle."
Whereas, Lieutenant Darwin K. Kyle was born in Kentucky, he
lived in Racine and Boone County, West Virginia, where he
attended school, including Sherman High School before his
enlistment in the armed services; and
Whereas, Lieutenant Darwin K. Kyle entered the United States
Army, serving in WWII and the Korean Conflict, where he was
mortally wounded on February 16, 1951 near Kanil-Ni, Korea, at
the battle site known as "Pork Chop Hill"; and
Whereas, Lieutenant Darwin K. Kyle was awarded the
Congressional Medal of Honor for his bravery and service beyond
the call of duty; and
Whereas, In recognition of his supreme sacrifice to his
country and his adopted State, it is fitting and proper that the
Legislature take public note of the years of service to the
Nation and this sacrifice by one of its adoptive sons; therefore,
be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the bridge crossing Little Coal River at the confluenceof Spruce Fork as Route 17 enters Madison, Boone County, West
Virginia, is hereby, named the "Lieutenant Darwin K. Kyle
Memorial Bridge"; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates
forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the
Division of Highways and to the Governor.
